This week was more of the same as it was over the past few weeks. I didn’t make much progress through Green’s, Stokes’, and the Divergence Theorems, only watching two videos, reading one article, and failing one exercise. 😒 BUT, as has been the case for the last hundred-million weeks, I do feel like I made some progress getting a better understanding of what’s going on with vectors, curl, G.T., S.T., etc. I’m about 10% happy that I’m slowly starting to get a better idea of what’s going on with vector calculus and 90% demoralized that I feel like I’ve gotten nowhere in the past 10 or so weeks. Funny enough, I’m as fired up as I’ve ever been to keep pushing even though I feel like I’m getting nowhere. I mentioned a few times over the past few weeks that I started working on another project and that I’ve made some sort of superstitious connection between these two endeavours, that I need to finish learning calculus in order to succeed in that other project. I told myself ~4.5 years ago that if I could teach myself calculus, I could do whatever I wanted to do. I’m REALLY excited thinking about what could come from this other project but I think it will be very difficult to pull off, which is why I REALLY feel want to finish of calculus as proof that I can accomplish difficult things. I’m certain I will get there eventually, but I’m concerned that at this rate it’s going to take me another ~4.5 years…
I also mentioned a few weeks ago that I’ve physically been feeling awful lately, and I once again don’t have much energy to put in to this post this week. (I feel like I might puke right now, in case you were wondering.) So here are three questions I worked on this week with the first being from the final two videos of the Stokes’ Theorem section, and second and third questions being from the exercise that I failed:
I’m not going to explain what’s happening here, partly because I don’t really understand it but mainly because I feel like poo. The gist of what these videos and what this question was pointing out is that solving the line integral from this question gives you the same solution as solving this question using a double integral to calculate curl.
Question 1
Question 2
The silver lining for this exercise is that I more-or-less figured out how to answer the questions by the end of the week. Once I figured out how to answer them (again, not going to explain right now but will next week), I still got some of them wrong and had to restart but only because I made a random mistake and not because I didn’t know what was going on. (Although, to be fair, I’m not 100% confident in my knowledge of how to solve them, but I’m like 80% confident.)
And ya… That’s going to be it for this week. 😔 I feel guilty that these posts have been so pathetic lately… But I also feel like absolute ass so it’s hard for me to care that much right now. I know I’ve said this a billion times at this point, but I’m really hoping I can make some decent progress on Green’s, Stokes’, and the Divergence Theorems (320/600 M.P.) this coming week. The only thing I’d like more than that is to feel like I’m not going to hurl, which I think I’m going to go do right now…
